Photo of Agnes Appelo and young son Carlton: Agnes Evelyn Paju was born on December 28, 1899 in Björneborg (Pori), Finland. She emigrated from Finland with her mother, Emma Lauren Paju, and younger sisters Bertha and Pearl in 1909 to join her father, Edward Paju, who had emigrated in 1904 to work as a logging train engineer at the Brix Brothers Logging Camp at Sisson Creek, Washington. Another sister, Celia (who married Carl O. Hill) was born in America in 1909.
